What is Past Continuous Tense in Hindi?

Past continuous tense वह क्रिया होती है जो किसी वाक्य में किसी कार्य या क्रिया को पूरा नहीं होने देती, बल्कि उसे एक निश्चित समय तक जारी रखती है, यह टेंस किसी वाक्य में किसी कार्य की प्रक्रिया को दर्शाता है जो की एक निश्चित समय पर हो रहा था।

हिंदी में past continuous tense  को भूतकाल क्रिया का प्रगतिशील रूप या भूतकाल क्रिया का चलने वाला रूप कहा जाता है, जिस हिंदी वाक्य में क्रिया के अंत में रहा, “रहे थे”, “रही थी”, “रहा था” आदि लगा रहे, तो वे past continuous tense का वाक्य होता है। Read 1 st form of Past tense that is called Past Indefinite Tense

Rules for Forming the Past Continuous Tense Sentences

Past continuous tense बनाने के लिए आप निम्नलिखित नियमों का पालन कर सकते हैं, 

1. विषय (subject): वाक्य के विषय को चुने।
2. क्रिया (verb): वाक्य में क्रिया को चुने। 
3. वास्तु (objective): वाक्य में वस्तु को चुने। 
4. समय (time): वाक्य में समय को चुने।
5. सहायक क्रिया (auxiliary verb): past continuous tense में , सहायक क्रिया में ‘was’ या ‘were’ का उपयोग किया जाता है।

Types and Rules of Sentences in Past continuous tense

Past continuous tense में वाक्य को हम चार प्रकार से बना सकते हैं,

1. Positive sentence (सकारात्मक वाक्य) 
2. Negative sentence (नकारात्मक वाक्य) 
3. Interrogative sentence (प्रश्नवाचक वाक्य) 
4. Interrogative negative sentence (नकारात्मक प्रश्नवाचक वाक्य)

Positive sentence	Use of Subject + was/were + verb and (ing) + object
Negative sentence	Use of Subject + was/were +use of not + verb (ing) + object
Interrogative sentence	was/were + Subject + verb (ing) + object
Interrogative negative sentence	was/were + Subject + not + verb (ing) + object

Past Continuous Affirmative Sentences

तो अब हम past continuous tense में सकारात्मक वाक्यों (positive sentence) के rule और उदाहरण को जानते हैं।

RULE : Use of Subject + Was/Were + V1(ing) + Object 

1. सीता पढ़ रही थी – Sita was studying.
2. हम विद्यालय में पढ़ रहे थे – We were studying in the school.
3. वे कार्य कर रहे थे – They were doing work.
4. हम सभी खेल के मैदान में खेल रहे थे – We all were playing in the playground.
5. वह दुकान जा रहा था – He was going to the shop.
6. बाघ जंगल में दौड़ रहा था – The tiger was running in the forest.
7. वे बात कर रहे थे – They were talking.
8. मैं अपना गृहकार्य कर रहा था – I was doing my homework. 
9. वह अपने कपड़े सर्फ से धो रही थी – She was washing her clothes with detergent.
10. वह एक गीत गा रही थी – She was singing a song. 
11. वर्षा हो रही थी – It was raining.
12. राम एक उपन्यास लिख रहा था – Ram was writing a novel. 
13. वे लोग पतंग उड़ा रहे थे – Those people were flying a kite.
14. वे मेरी मदद कर रहे थे – They were helping me.
15. हम लोग अपना काम कर रहे थे – We were doing our work.
16. वह एक मधुर गाना गा रहा था – He was singing a sweet song.
17. मैं अपनी किताब को भर रहा था – I was filling up my book.
18. रोहन सो रहा था – Rohan was sleeping.
19.  तुम उसकी तारीफ कर रहे थे – You were praising him.

Past Continuous Tense Negative Sentences

तो अब हम past continuous tense में नकारात्मक वाक्यों (negative sentence) के rule और उदाहरण को जानते हैं। इस टेंस के दूसरे रूप को Past Perfect Tense in Hindi के नाम से जाना जाता है तो इसे पड़ना ना भूले |

RULE : Subject + Was/Were + Not + V1(ing) + Object 

1. तुम वहां नहीं जा रहे थे – you were not going there.
2. तुम अपना पाठ लिख नहीं रहे थे – You were not writing your lesson.
3. आज सुबह वर्षा नहीं हो रही थी – It was not raining this morning.
4. करन मेरी मदद नहीं कर रहा था – Karan was not helping me.
5. अमन कुछ नहीं कर रहा था – Aman was doing nothing.
6. वह पत्र नहीं पढ़ रही थी – She was not reading a letter.
7. रानी रो नहीं रहा था – Rani was not crying. 
8. वे शोर नहीं मचा रहे थे – They were not making a noise.
9. वे नहीं लिख रहे थे – They were not writing.
10. अरुण नहीं खा रहा था – Arun was not eating. 
11. काव्या सच नहीं बोल रही थी – Kavya was not speaking the truth.
12. हम लोग फिल्म नहीं देख रहे थे – We are not watching the film.
13. कल बारिश नहीं हो रही थी – It was not raining yesterday.
14. वे लोग उर्दू नहीं बोल रहे थे – They were not speaking urdu.
15. वे आपको नहीं बुला रहे थे – They were not calling you. 
16. तुम जॉब नहीं कर रहे थे – You were not doing a job.
17. साक्षी उससे बात नहीं कर रही थी – Sakshi was not talking to him. 
18. पहले राम नहीं जा रहा था – Ram was not going before. 
19. गीता गाना नहीं गा रही थी – Gita was not singing a song.

Past Continuous Tense Interrogative Sentences

तो अब हम past continuous tense में  प्रश्नवाचक वाक्यों (interrogative sentence) के rule और उदाहरण को जानते हैं।

RULE : Was/Were + Subject + V1(ing) + Object 

1. क्या तुम कहानी पढ़ रहे थे – Were you reading a story?
2. क्या वह आपकी किताब लिख रही थी – Was She writing his book?
3. दरवाजा कौन खटखटा रहा था – Who was knocking the door?
4. वह लड़की इस गली में क्यों खड़ी थी – why was that girl standing in this street?
5. क्या वह गाना गा रही थी – Was she singing a song?
6. क्या मैं कल सो रही थी – Was I sleeping yesterday?
7. तुम यहां क्या कर रहे थे – What were you doing here?
8. वह कौन सा गाना गा रही थी – Which song was She singing?
9. आप किस से बात कर रहे थे – Whom were you talking to?
10. वह स्कूल में क्या कर रहा था – What was he doing in the school?
11. कितने लड़के घर में खेल रहे थे – How many boys were playing in the house?
12. क्या वह टहलने जा रहा था – Was he going for a walk? 
13. क्या वे फुटबॉल खेल रहे थे – Were they playing football?
14. क्या यहां बारिश हो रही थी – Was it raining here?
15. राजू कहां जा रहा था – Where was Raju going?
16. वह क्यों रो रहा था – Why was he crying?
17. तुम आज कहा जा रहे थे – Where was you going today?

Past Continuous tense Interrogative Negative Sentence

तो अब हम past continuous tense में नकारात्मक प्रश्नवाचक वाक्यों (interrogative negative sentence) के rule और उदाहरण को जानते हैं।

 RULE : Was/Were + Subject + Not + V1(ing) + Object 

1. क्या बच्चे खेल नहीं रहे थे – were the children not playing?
2. क्या हम नियम नहीं तोड़ रहे थे – were we not breaking the rules?
3. क्या रानी नए कपड़े नहीं खरीद रही थी – Was Rani not buying new clothes?
4. क्या चोर तुम्हारे दुकान में चोरी नहीं कर रहा था – Was thief not stealing in your shop?
5. क्या वह खुशियां नहीं मना रहा था – Was he not celebrating?
6. क्या बच्चे गंदगी नहीं फैला रहे थे – were the children not spreading dirt?
7. क्या बाघ जंगल में नहीं घूम रहा था – Was the tiger not roaming in the forest?
8. वह तुम्हारी मदद क्यों नहीं कर रही थी – Why was she not helping you?
9. तुम घर क्यों नहीं जा रहे थे – Why were you not going to home?
10. वे चिड़ियाघर क्यों नहीं जा रहे थे – Why were they not giving to see the zoo?
11. वह वहां क्यों नहीं जा रहा था – Why was he not going there?
12. कक्षा में कितने छात्र नहीं खेल रहे थे – How many students were not playing in the class?
13. वह मेरी मदद क्यों नहीं कर रही थी – Why was she not helping me?
14. हमारा देश प्रगति क्यों नहीं कर रहा था – Why was our country not progressing?
15. क्या तुम उसे नहीं डाट रहे थे – Were you not scolding him? 
16. क्या बच्चे नाच नहीं रहे थे –  Where the children not dancing?
17. राजिभ घर पर काम क्यों नहीं कर रहा था – Why was Rajiv not working at the home?
18. क्या वह मुझे सुन नहीं रही थी – Was she not listening at me?
19. हम कहां नहीं जा रहे थे – Where were we not going?
20. क्या मैं पेड़ पर नहीं चढ़ रहा था – was I not climbing on the tree?
